Mobile Gunshots

"My car doesn't always break down, but when it does there are gunshots," to quote my friend's comment regarding my recent experience.
My car broke down last night while I was driving home from a friend's wedding reception. Thankfully, I was within the AAA mileage limit to get a free tow back to the repair shop. Night was falling, and as I sat in my car waiting for assistance, I heard apparent gunshots in the nearby woods. It wasn't too unsettling for some reason, but the lack of air conditioning was indeed. It was dark and there were gunshots nearby, so standing next to my car at night by the side of a country road didn't seem appealing. The humidity fogged up the windows in the car as I sat sweating.
To pass the time, I read an article on my iPhone, but I didn't want to use the car outlet to charge my iPhone battery because of the specific car problem.
Talk about feeling limited. In our technological age, going anywhere without a cell phone feels foreign. This past week, I was on the road for work, and my cell battery died. Unfortunately I had forgotten my charger. I don't like the feeling of not having a working cell phone with me. Just 10 years ago it would have been normal to travel without a cell, but I raced to an authorized dealer for my cell phone carrier and bought a phone charger for $20 (thanks to the salesmen for the special deal).
So, if you ever feel like you're in a movie dealing with a crisis when your cell phone dies, you are not alone. Solidarity.
