Can You Believe?

There is a threshold in life that is extremely valuable to cross: Believing that truly sinister, deceptive people exist. Politics has brought this to mind recently. Are there politicians who really do blatantly, repeatedly lie to achieve their ends, even if these ends are noble in their own minds? Of course there are such persons.
This is translated into every facet of life, including personal relationships, but without delving into this, consider a crime scene. If you don't consider every possibility - which weapon, which culprit, etc. - then your number of possible explanations is limited. In fact, excluding possibilities could leave you without the correct explanation and your ultimate explanation can be flat-out wrong or at least watered down.
If we do not remain open to the fact that bad people exist, we limit our ability to make decisions based on the best information. We must discern and think on our feet. Better decisions are usually based on more accurate information - if we are willing to face it.
